Who's ready for some football? I sure am. Spring football practice started last week for most schools, including Notre Dame. Of course, there's not a lot to report at this point other than some position changes along the offensive and defensive fronts and weight gain for most of guys. The rumors are that Jimmy Clausen has packed on about 12 pounds of muscle in the off-season which will hopefully make him more durable. Actually, I'm hoping that the extra pounds added to the offensive line will make Clausen more durable.

Frankly, I don't really care too much about what happens in spring practice right now. I'm just happy to know that there are kids out there suiting up and knocking the crap out of each other. That means that football season can't be too far off, right? Right?! I need to know that there will be respite from the constant barrage of Yankees and Red Sox news that will be forced down our throat for the next five boring, painful months. My hope is that either or both of the Yankees and Red Sox suck so that the folks at ESPN lose interest in baseball and start reporting on a sport that isn't so painfully boring.

  1. Dear Jeff,

ESPN will focus on the Red Sox, Yankees, Cubs, and Mets regardless of whether they do well or not. If they do poorly, all you will hear will be news stories asking "What happened".

With all of this said, why are you focusing on sad, sad ND football when the Fighting Irish men's ice hockey team has made it to the Frozen Four? That's pretty awesome!

  2. 'Tis true, sir. I had every intention of mentioning the ND Hockey team's appearance in the Frozen Four but lost my train of thought while being annoyed at the baseball season that hadn't even started yet.
