The Finals

I guess all of the sports "pundits" are right. A Lakers-Celtics finals is good for ratings - in my house at least. I have no idea what the actual television ratings have been for this series but I can only imagine that they are good since two large markets are the host cities. Plus, it's got the old-school 80s feel to it since it seemed like the Lakers and Celtics faced off in every finals in the 80s.

I'm not a Celtics fan nor a Lakers fan, so why am I watching? It reminds me of when I was a youngster. It reminds me of the times my dad and I spent watching the Finals together. The Pacers were never very good when I was younger so we adopted the Celtics as the team we would reluctantly root for because Larry Bird was from Indiana. Sure, Dad and I marveled at the big plays and memorable moments, but what I remember most is my dad telling me to watch Larry when he didn't have the ball. I remember him showing me how defense created offense and how Larry made the passes he did because he always knew where everyone was at all times. I remember him using those games to teach me how to play basketball because he could never really show me himself since he never played.

That's why I'm watching. Because I miss my dad.
